The Area

  • Heritage: Paris is at the junction of where the Nith River meets the Grand River in Southern Ontario. The town was settled by Hiram Capron, who helped establish one of Upper Canada’s earliest iron foundries. He moved to Paris in 1829, divided part of his land into town lots, and constructed a grist mill in 1830. Capron named the town after the gypsum deposits, used to make plaster of Paris, being mined nearby. Paris is often referred to as the “Cobblestone Capital of Canada” because of many unique cobblestone buildings throughout town.
  • Education: As part of the Grand Erie District School Board, Paris has two elementary schools: Paris Central Public School and North Ward School. Students then graduate onto Paris District High School, the regional secondary school with rigorous academic standards and home of the Paris Panthers. Notable alumni include former Olympian and Toronto Maple Leafs player Syl Apps, celebrity chef Ted Reader, and television producer of Degrassi Linda Schuyler.

Located nearby is the Brantford VIA Rail Station and Brantford Municipal Airport. Paris has standard, limo, and accessible taxi services within the town and for the surrounding area. Most people living in Paris, either work in Paris or nearby cities such as Brantford, Cambridge, Hamilton and Kitchener Waterloo.
